Finals Week

The NBA Finals have just started… Go Mavs! I predict Mavs in 7… after all the fantastic series this year in the playoffs, how could it end any other way?

It’s nice to see Dirk elevating his game to cold-blooded killer status. More angry-faced Teutonic celebrations of unguardable jumpers, please!

Seems like the Lakers did pretty well against the Suns tonight… of course, I have to rely on secondhand information because I was working late again, but apparently there’s sort of a “team concept” revolution happening here among the Lakers that doesn’t involve Kobe launching 30 shots every night. According to online pundits, getting Lamar Odom the ball is a Phil Jackson genius masterstroke gameplan, but I know many people who would say that it’s just common sense. Anyway, Kobe seems to be going along with it.

Check out the pic accompanying this post - if you look closely, you’ll see that Kobe is actually dunking over the freshly-minted league MVP, floppy hair and all. Hit the link to the game recap above and you may see a video there with it, which you should definitely check out for the Mamba-v-Nash jawing and aforementioned nasty posterizing dunk.

I hate to say it but he’s really elevated his game this year. My main beef with his game had to do with shot selection and percentage; he’s improved the latter while somehow overcoming the former with otherworldly talent. You can tell that his conditioning rivals anyone else’s in the league, and he’s somehow becoming a team leader despite his Jordan-sized ego. I really do hate to admit that I like watching Kobe play now - it’s always interesting, at least, and these days there’s usually the chance that he could go for… I don’t know… 81?

He’s changing his jersey number to 24 next year… the Black Mamba strikes again! Someone online mentioned that soon LeBron will change his number to 25… haha.

I don’t want to come off like a new member of the Kobe bandwagon - my favorite player is still the Diggler and his 31 ppg average so far in this year’s playoffs. Still, I think it’s pretty clear that Kobe is the best all-around player in the league, and one of the most exciting guys to watch on a nightly basis - if only to see what he’ll do next.
