Seems like the Lakers did pretty well against the Suns tonight… of course, I have to rely on secondhand information because I was working late again, but apparently there’s sort of a “team concept” revolution happening here among the Lakers that doesn’t involve Kobe launching 30 shots every night. According to online pundits, getting Lamar Odom the ball is a Phil Jackson genius masterstroke gameplan, but I know many people who would say that it’s just common sense. Anyway, Kobe seems to be going along with it.

Check out the pic accompanying this post - if you look closely, you’ll see that Kobe is actually dunking over the freshly-minted league MVP, floppy hair and all. Hit the link to the game recap above and you may see a video there with it, which you should definitely check out for the Mamba-v-Nash jawing and aforementioned nasty posterizing dunk.

I hate to say it but he’s really elevated his game this year. My main beef with his game had to do with shot selection and percentage; he’s improved the latter while somehow overcoming the former with otherworldly talent. You can tell that his conditioning rivals anyone else’s in the league, and he’s somehow becoming a team leader despite his Jordan-sized ego. I really do hate to admit that I like watching Kobe play now - it’s always interesting, at least, and these days there’s usually the chance that he could go for… I don’t know… 81?

He’s changing his jersey number to 24 next year… the Black Mamba strikes again! Someone online mentioned that soon LeBron will change his number to 25… haha.

I don’t want to come off like a new member of the Kobe bandwagon - my favorite player is still the Diggler and his 31 ppg average so far in this year’s playoffs. Still, I think it’s pretty clear that Kobe is the best all-around player in the league, and one of the most exciting guys to watch on a nightly basis - if only to see what he’ll do next.

satchel & bucky

Well, here’s yet another attempt at getting this site off the ground… now with the magic of WordPress.  I’ve tried a few things out, from coding an entire content-driven site by hand (no time!) to trying whole content management systems (too complex).  This has by far been the top bang-for-the-buck in terms of setup time vs. look.  And, I didn’t really have to do anything to install it… my hosting provider has a program called Fantastico that automates the whole process.

Since you’re here, you should know that most of the links go to test/temp pages, which will be that way for a little while.  I’m going to try to get a basic setup and layout going, then start adding more content.  in terms of customization to this point, “now playing” is a list of games which I’m currently playing, while the about me and in progress pages are temped in. Hopefully I can update soon!

[Update]: Sweet, I got a random quote selection plugin, installed it, and modified the header to use its output instead of the site description. This newfangled blog technology is the money; I wish I’d started using it sooner.
